Melissa Hough trained at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC and performed extensively in ballet competitions and festivals including The International Ballet Competition, the Helsinki International Ballet Competition, and the Vail International Dance Festival.

Hough danced with BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio prior to joining Boston Ballet II in 2003. She became a member of the corps de ballet in 2004 and was promoted to first soloist in 2007 and principal dancer in 2009.

Her diverse repertoire includes lead roles in Mikko Nissinen’s Swan Lake (Odile, Pas de Trois) and The Nutcracker, Nureyev’s Don Quixote (Mercedes, Kitri’s Friends), Giselle (Myrtha), The Sleeping Beauty (Aurora, Lilac Fairy, pas de trios), Balanchine’s Ballo della Regina, The Four Temperaments (Sanguinic), Prodigal Son (Siren) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Hippolyta), Concerto Barocco (2nd Violin), Christopher Wheeldon’s Polyphonia, August Bournonville’s La Sylphide (Effie), Kudelka’s Cinderella (Stepsister with glasses), Tharp’s In The Upper Room (Stomper), Forsythe’s In the middle, somewhat elevated, Kylian’s Falling Angels and Petite Mort, Caniparoli’s Lambarena, Pickett’s Etesian and Eventide, Morris’ Up and Down, and Elo’s Plan to B, Carmen (Mercedes), Break the Eyes, In On Blue and Le Sacre du Printemps.

Hough has choreographed works for Boston Ballet II, numerous Boston Ballet events and choreographed Zero Hour with James Whiteside in 2009.
