The National Ballet of Cuba is one of the most prestigious dance company in the world and

The company emerged in 1948, with Alicia Alonso as the main founder and first figure. In

1950 he created the National School of Ballet Alicia Alonso, attached to the professional

company. From the start, broke his artistic line of respect for the romantic and classical

while the creative work of choreographers who followed a line search at the national and

contemporary.

And at this early stage, the assembly of the full versions of classics such as Giselle ,

Ballets Russes as Petruschka or The Afternoon of a Faun , and of ballets created by

choreographers.

The advent of the Revolution in 1959, marked the beginning of a new era for the Cuban

ballet. That year, as part of a new cultural program, the company was reorganized under the

name of Ballet Nacional de Cuba, and has since had a meteoric rise, enriching its repertoire

and promoting the development of new dancers, choreographers, teachers and other creators in

other genres related to dance as art and music. Along with the improvement of the

traditional repertoire, has fostered a strong choreographic movement, with works that rank

among the most significant achievements of contemporary choreography.

Besides its intense activity in Cuba, where he has his art project socially popular level,

the National Ballet of Cuba develops an annual program of international tours, which leads

to scenes of various countries in Europe, Asia and America. Major awards including the Grand

Prix de la Ville de Paris and the Order "Felix Varela", the Republic of Cuba, in addition to

figures, so individual competitions and festivals.
