Tanaka was admitted to Asami Maki Students at the age of 10 and then entered Akiko Tachibana Ballet School. During the period she won Personal Choreography Award in Prix de Lausanne held in Tokyo in 1989.
Since Tanaka joined AMBT, she has danced numerous leading roles in major classics such as Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, Nutcracker, Notre Dame de Paris and L’Arlésienne. Her repertoire also includes major featured roles such as Lilac Fairy (The Sleeping Beauty), Pas de trois and Pas de quatre (Swan Lake), Snow Queen (Nutcracker), Clemence and Variation (Raymonda), Milady (The Three Musketeers), Giulietta (The Tales of Hoffmann), as well as Soloist (Serenade) ,Con Brio, Chabrier Danse, and Coming Together, among others. She won Muramatsu Award in 1993.
