Silver Barkes received her classical ballet training at the Marin Ballet School and San Francisco Ballet School. Her professional career began as an apprentice with State Street Ballet in Santa Barbara, California. In 2002, Silver performed a soloist role in Robert Sunds’ Emmy award-winning Beauty and the Beast in the theaters of Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou while on tour with the State Street Ballet in China. Silver’s performance highlights include leading roles in Romeo and Juliet, Hollywood Nutcracker, and Heartland, all choreographed by Rodney Gustafson, director of State Street Ballet. With Ballet West, Silver has performed in Jonas Kåge’s Swan Lake, Hans van Manen’s In and Out, Waltz of the Flowers in Willam Christensen’s The Nutcracker, “Domani” and “That’s Life” in Twyla Tharp’s Nine Sinatra Songs, in the world premieres of Peggy Dolkas’ “Yes, But How Did You Get There?” and Susan Shields’ Grand Synthesis, in George Balanchine’s Serenade and Third Regiment in his Stars and Stripes, Barley in Michael Smuin’s The Tempest, Mark Morris’ Gong, Bronislava Nijinska’s Les Biches, Michel Fokine’s Polovetsian Dances, Swan Maiden in Adam Sklute’s newly conceived and produced Swan Lake, and in the world premiere of Megan Furse’s Selcoutheries.
