Johnson Shea


Classical Ballet / Dancer

Shea, a native of Dallas, TX, began his ballet training at a local school, and at age 14 accepted a full scholarship to the Dallas Metropolitan Ballet School. Three years later, Shea joined the Metropolitan Classical Ballet, where he was promoted to Principal Dancer. Shea also enjoyed freelance and competition opportunities; as a guest artist he has appeared in Tokyo and throughout the United States, and participated in the 2006 Youth America Grand Prix in New York, and the 2008 World Ballet Competition in Varna. Since joining Ballet Arizona in 2009 Shea has danced principal roles in Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and Ib Andersen’s The Nutcracker. Shea has also danced principal roles in Raymonda and Jerome Robbins In the Night. Most recently Shea’s interpretation of the Phlegmatic variation in Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments was praised by The New York Times. Shea originated a feature role in Andersen’s Diversions which was performed at the Kennedy Center in June 2010.
