Classical Ballet / Choreographer
Ricardo Bustamante (Medellin, Colombia, 1962) follows his dance training at the Academia de Ballet de Medellin. He began his career in 1978 with the Ballet de Caracas in Venezuela. Two years later received a scholarship to the San Francisco Ballet School and after six months training, he Eleve as adopted by the San Francisco Ballet. There he worked in three years until principal and performed solo roles in work by Maurice Bejart, George Balanchine, Eliot Feld, Jerome Robbins and Jiri Kylian.
At the invitation of Mikhail Baryshnikov makes Bustamante in 1985 moved to the American Ballet Theatre (ABT), where he was soloist in 1987 and in 1989 principal
appointed. Performed at ABT, he leads in all the major classical ballets and performs with renowned partners such as Alexandra Ferri, Carla Fracci, Cynthia Gregory, Cynthia Harvey, Susan Jaffe and Yekaterina Maximova. He is also seen in choreographies include Karol Armitage, George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Antony Tudor and Clark Tipet.
