Ratmansky Alexei

Classical Ballet / Choreographer / Artistic Director
Born in Leningrad. Graduated from the Moscow Academic College of Choreography (class P. Pestov) in 1986 and joined the Ballet Company of the Kiev Shevchenko Theatre of Opera and Ballet. From 1992 to 1995 he worked in Canada with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. In 1995 came back for the Ballet Company of the Kiev Shevchenko Theatre of Opera and Ballet and spend other two years with the company as soloist. Between 1997 and 2004 danced with the Royal Danish Ballet. On January, 2004, he was appointed Bolshoi Theatre Director of Ballet. Since 2009 - American Ballet Theatre’s Artist-in-Residence.
Graduatee of the Choreographers' Faculty of The State Institute of Theatre Arts.

- Laureate of the Ukrainian Competition of Ballet Dancers, 1988
- Laureate and winner the Vatslav Nijinsky prize at the S.P. Diaghilev Independent Competition for Ballet Dancers, Moscow, 1992
- Laureate of the Golden Mask Award (for ballet "Dreams of Japan")
- Laureate of the for Danish Flag by Queen Margrethe II (for his contribution to the Danish arts), 2002
- Awarded the Golden Mask National Theatre prize ("Best Choreographer" for his "Bright Stream" production), 2004
- Awarded the Benois de la danse prize (for his production Anna Karenina), 2005
- Awarded National Dance Awards Critics' Circle prize (for his production The Bright Stream), 2007
- Laureate of the Golden Mask Award (in the Best Choreographer nomination for his production Jeu de cartes), 2007
- Awarded the Shostakovich International Award, established by Yuri Bashmet International Charity Fund, 2007
