Glavin Jaered

Classical Ballet / Dancer

Born in England, Jaered grew up in the country in West Sussex. His interest in ballet was evident very early on – in fact, he started dance lessons when he was just two years old. When he was 11, he started at Elmhurst Ballet School before joining the Royal Ballet School at 14. He went on to win second prize in the school’s choreographic competition. He was a finalist in the Young British Dancer of the Year competition following his performances with the Royal Ballet in La Bayadere and Sleeping Beauty.

Jaered joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet in September 2008. Most recently he has performed in 2009’s Peter Pan and the triple bill From Here to There. His tribute to Lady Gaga created during an in-house choreographic workshop became a sensation on youtube in May 2010.

When Jaered performed the role of Escamillo in Carmen, earlier this year, the NZ Listener said, “Jaered Glavin as the rock star Escamillo gives a dazzling display of virtuoso dancing.”

When he’s not performing, Jaered enjoys going out with friends, shopping and watching movies.
