Demis Volpi was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age of four he began his ballet training, two years later he was trained by Andrea Candela. Since 1995 he has been training with Wilhelm Burmann from time to time. During the years 1995 to 1999 Demis Volpi also worked together with Mario Gallizi. In 1999 he was a student at the Escuela de Danza del Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón. Afterwards he went to the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto and graduated in 2002. From 2002 to 2004 he attended the John Cranko School in Stuttgart where he received the Academy Diploma.
He became an apprentice with the Stuttgart Ballet in the 2004/05 season. In the following season he was taken into the Corps de ballet.
Demis Volpi is also a talented young choreographer. With on and on and on he created his first own choreography in 2006 at the Noverre-Society’s “Young Choreographers”. In 2007 Demis Volpi was already named in the category “Young choreographer to watch” in the critics’ choice of ballettanz. For the Pas de deux Little Monsters (World Premeire on March 5th, 2011) which he created for the competition for the Erik Bruhn Prize, Demis Volpi has been awarded the Choreographic Prize.
