Campbell Clytie

Classical Ballet / Dancer

Clytie Campbell joined the RNZB in September 2005 for The Nutcracker season, returning from eight years dancing in Europe.

Starting at the age of five, her entire ballet training was at her mother’s school, the Philippa Campbell School of Ballet in Auckland. At 17 Clytie left New Zealand to join the Deutsche Oper Ballet in Berlin where she danced for more than six years, before moving on to dance with Vienna’s Staatsoper Ballet.

Since joining the RNZB Clytie has danced the grande pas de deux in The Nutcracker, solos in Equisses and the Queen of the Wilis in Giselle. Her role as Lady Capulet in last year’s Romeo & Juliet was described as “ravishing”. “Clytie Campbell as the poisonous Lady Capulet is a knockout,” one reviewer wrote.

Clytie danced the leads roles in all three works in the 2010 triple Bill From Here to There – an achievement that caught the eye of reviewers who praised her performances.

In Carmen, Clytie performed the role of Frasquita, the NZ Listener praised her for bringing a “saucy flair” to her role.
