Saunders Christopher


Classical Ballet / Principal

Christopher was born in Gosport. He trained locally at first and then at The Royal Ballet Lower and Upper Schools. He danced in the Schools\' performances in 1981, in La Fille mal gardée and 1982, Giselle (Duke). He joined The Royal Ballet in February 1983, was promoted to First Artist in September 1986, Soloist in 1991 and Principal Character Artist in September 1997.

His classical repertory includes the Danse Arabe and Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker, a Suitor, the Florestan Pas de trois, the Spanish Dance and the King in The Sleeping Beauty, the Spanish Dance and von Rothbart in Swan Lake, Wilfred and the Duke of Courland in Giselle, the Rajah in La Bayadère, the title role in Don Quixote and the Lead Hungarian in Raymonda Act III.
