Belgian. Chris Roelandt was born in 1969, in Belgium. He studied at the Antwerp Institute of Ballet, and joined the Royal Ballet of Flanders in 1988. Promoted to soloist in 1990, he danced principal roles in George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante, Rubies, Serenade, The Four Temperaments and Agon, as well as in works by Jíri Kylián, Niels Christe, Violette Verdi, and Maurice Béjart. He performed as a guest artist with the Daytona Ballet in 1990, and at the Introdans gala the following year.
Chris Roelandt was invited by Jean-Christophe Maillot in April 1995 to join les Ballets de Monte-Carlo as a soloist, then as a first soloist two years later. He has danced principal roles in the Balanchine repertoire (La Valse, The Four Temperaments, Violin Concerto, Concerto Barocco, Theme and Variations), in Leonide Massine's La Gaîté Parisienne, and in contemporary works by Jean-Christophe Maillot (Vers un Pays Sage, Concert d'Anges, Romeo and Juliet (role of Romeo), In Volo, l'Île, Cinderella (the father and the prince), The Nutcracker Circus (the Prince), La Belle, Entrelacs, D'une Rive à l'Autre, Altro Canto and Le Songe, John Alleyne (In the Course of Sleeping), William Forsythe (The Vile Parody of Address, Approximate Sonata, Quartette), Jíri Kylián (Return to a Strange Land), Uwe Scholz (Jeunehome) and Mirror's Edge by Karole Armitage, Blue Grass by Itzik Galili, The Time it Takes by Kevin O'Day and Getting Started by Jacopo Godani.
