le Ballet du Capitole

The tradition of dance in the Capitol Theatre dates back to the very creation of the room, that's nearly three centuries. In the XIX th century, the company gives the great romantic ballets and participates in most opera performances as it was then in use. The XX th century, the Ballet is experiencing mixed fortunes as the directors of the dance that govern its destiny. This is why, upon his arrival at the head of the Theatre, one of the priorities of Nicolas Joel was to make his position at Ballet's repertoire and open to all the great writers of our century . To do this, he decided to appoint Nanette Glushak to the direction of the company in 1994. Since then, this former dancer of the New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre Ballet was the Capitol of the best companies a classical and neoclassical France, famous for its Balanchine repertory and neoclassic (Frederick Ashton, Antony Tudor, Agnes de Mille ...) and its productions of classic suitable for a small company of 35 dancers ( the Sleeping Beauty of Michel Rahn and Nanette Glushak, Casse Nutcracker and The Firebird by Mr. Rahn, Cinderella Derek Deane, Coppélia Enrique Martinez, Giselle and Don Quixote N. Glushak, Romeo and Juliet by John Cranko). Nanette Glushak also uses current choreographers to enrich his dancers for new experiences and to the Ballet du Capitole company today. Thus, in recent seasons, the company has worked with choreographers as diverse as Mauro Bigonzetti, Jean-Christophe Blavier, Nils Christe, Nacho Duato, William Forsythe, Jacopo Godani, Lionel Hoche, Bruno Jacquin, Jiri Kylian , Thierry Malandain, Hans van Manen, Peter Martins, Benjamin Millepied, Myriam Naisy, Robert North, Angelin Preljocaj, Margo Sappington, Uwe Scholz, Richard Tanner, Mauricio Wainrot ...
