Iceland Dance Company

The Iceland Dance Company, IDC, is the national dance company of Iceland. It is an independent public institution with their base of operations at the City Theatre in Reykjavík

Under the Artistic Direction of Katrín Hall Iceland Dance Company has gained recognition as a contemporary dance company on a world-class scale. IDC has consistently built a repertoire of choreography by many of Europe’s leading contemporary choreographers. Parallel to that, the Iceland Dance Company has led the development of Icelandic choreography and nurtured the talent of Icelandic choreographers who have consequently received attention from abroad. The combination of these two developments have created a unique position for IDC on the international dance market. Not only does it hold a repertoire of choreography by Europe’s best but also the talent of new emerging Icelandic choreographers.

Rui Horta, Jirí Kylián, Jo Strömgren, Richard Wherlock, Itzik Galili, Stijn Celis, Rami Be’er, Ina Christel Johannessen, Alexander Ekman, Roberto Olivan, Andre Gingras, Alan Lucien Öjen and Damien Jalet, are among those who have worked with IDC as well as Icelandic choreographers Erna Ómarsdóttir, Lára Stefánsdóttir, Steinunn and Brian just to mention a few.

Iceland Dance Company has given numerous outstanding performances in major international dance theatres and festivals in Europe as well as in China and U.S.A.

Iceland Dance Company puts an emphasis on developing partnerships with other cultural institutions. The company prides itself on a tradition of working with emerging talents in all artistic fields and frequently commissions new music. IDC also participates actively in various international networks in the field of dance and stage arts.
