Dansgroep Amsterdam
Dansgroep Amsterdam is the principal modern dance company for the city of Amsterdam. It showcases work by multiple generations of established and emerging artists on major stages throughout the Netherlands and abroad. It also presents bold site-specific projects in unorthodox venues such as parks, factories and museums.
Dansgroep Amsterdam stands at the vanguard of Dutch creativity. It commissions top artists to create intelligent and unexpected work for its dynamic ensemble of dancers. The company also coordinates international partnerships and joint ventures that contribute not only to the profile of the organisation abroad, but also to the resources and relationships fed back into the Netherlands.
Together with the exciting and varied work being developed for the professional stage on a daily basis, Dansgroep Amsterdam engages amateur performers for community art projects and offers creative learning programmes to educate young artists and theatregoers while cultivating the future of the profession.
Dansgroep Amsterdam aims to honour and preserve past creations, encourage growth and experimentation, innovate and anticipate future opportunities and trends in dance. Its choreographers have been the recipients of numerous awards including the Swan, Holland’s most prestigious award for dance. The company receives a structural subsidy from the Netherlands Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW).
