Ballet de Santiago

In 1959 the Municipality of Santiago called the Ballet de Arte Moderno (BAM) to join as resident company of the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, giving rehearsal rooms with a commitment to meet and collaborate seasons ballet with opera. The BAM was created by Octavio Cintolesi , former member of the Chilean National Ballet, who on his return from Europe last year, had brought together dancers from various compañías.La company continues to develop and then, over the years and role that the arts group achieved its name changed to Ballet de Santiago .
In February 1982, Ivan Nagy , and his wife Marilyn Burr , assumed the artistic direction of the Company, and ambitious artistic raised, once achieved, the Ballet de Santiago rose to international status. Nagy raised the technical level of the members, introduced new dancers to the company, especially in South America, invited to teach a master dance class international, and expanded the repertoire with the contribution of different choreographers like John Cranko, Ben Stevenson, Ronald Hynd, Kenneth MacMillan, George Balanchine, Layress Luc, André Prokovsky, Hilda Riveros, Jaime Pinto, David Parsons, Robert North, Trey McIntyre, Glen Tetley, Jerome Robbins and Marcia Haydee , among others.
Over the years, various national and international artists would also be responsible for the artistic direction of said body as Dosza Imre , Denis Poole, Marcia Haydee and Luz Lorca , to name a few.
Internationally famous dancers have also performed with the company such as Dame Margot Fonteyn , Natalia Makarova , Julie Kent , Fernando Bujones , Valentina and Leonid Kozlov , Alexander Godunov , Marianna Tcherkassky , Eva Evdokimov , Marcia Haydee , Richard Cragun , Tamas Detrich , Maximiliano Guerra , Agnes Oaks , Thomas Edur , Paloma Herrera , Carlos Acosta , José Manuel Carreño , Julio Bocca , Nina Ananiashvili and Svtelana Zakharova , among others.
While in Santiago, the Company is responsible for the Official Ballet season at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, and also performs outreach functions for free. It also complies parallel commitment to a season in the Teatro Municipal de Viña del Mar and from 1998 to 2004, so did the city of Temuco.
His commitment to the country has to occur once a year in some of the most important regions in their traditional national tours. In this way fulfills its mission extension with an average of hundred performances annually, both in the capital and the provinces.
In his tours abroad - United States , Uruguay , Peru , Argentina , Spain , Hungary , Germany , Italy , Brazil , Mexico has achieved critical acclaim that has emerged as the best company in Latin America. Marcia Haydee , one of the dance artists most admired and respected the last time, takes the artistic director of Ballet de Santiago in 2004, a position he previously held in the period 1993-1996.
