The Saratov Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre began it's history in 1860 when a Summer theatre has built for touring comanies.
In 1917 the first professional opera company in Saratov was created, follwed in 1928 by Saratov's first professional ballet company.
The theatre was awarded the title "Academic" in 1977.
