The Grigorovich Ballet was established in 1996 following the 78-year-old choreographer's departure from the Bolshoi Ballet, where he had been Artistic Director for more than three decades beginning in 1964. He moved to Krasnodar on the invitation of the prominent artist Leonard Gatov. Since that time the choreographer has staged ten updated versions of his productions with the young troupe.
The Grigorovich Ballet Company now counts more than 90 dancers. They are graduates of St. Petersburg, Kiev, Perm, and Novosibirsk ballet schools, as well as the Moscow Ballet Academy.
